EAW Part 2

Each day at the workshop we received individual assignments to photograph various sporting activities. I had the pleasure of photographing a couple that has been fly fishing for the past 20 years. Martha and Tom were kind enough to take me to two different fishing spots on the lower Beaverkill River. The first was a serene area and a perfect spot to introduce the tranquil sport of fly fishing. c-dot

got a call from my good friend chris rief yesterday. always good to hear from the ol’ gate city crew. chris is up in DC with his wonderful new wife meghan and is doing some great work.

he and i worked together at the wolf/ritz camera store in greensboro. i use the word worked lightly, if balloon volleyball ever becomes an official olympic sport, c-dot and i are a shoe-in for the gold in the doubles competition.

i have been a fan of chris’ work for a long time. he has such a great eye for composition and details, and he introduced me to E-6 cross processing.

he is now doing event and wedding photography, as well as continuing to rock out the fine art stuff.

check out his website, blog, and flickr sites!

EAW Numero Uno

A few weeks ago I had the honor of being a student at the Eddie Adams Workshop in upstate New York. One hundred students are hand picked from all over the world to attend the workshop with some of the top professionals in photojournalism. It was awe-inspiring to be able to learn from and work with such talented photographers.
Along with hearing Pulitzer Prize winning speakers we had the pleasure of documenting a little bit of the life surrounding Liberty, New York. The Hot Pink team’s theme was sporting life, so two of the mornings our entire team woke up at 5:30 a.m. to get to the Monticello race track to photograph in the beautiful morning sunlight.
It can be difficult to drag yourself out of bed before the rest of the world has woken up, but every time I do its worth it. It is so quiet and still, and the world seems at peace as the sun’s rays peek out above the horizon to brush everything with a little bit of golden.
