August is a an interesting month filled with bit of work, and a bit of fun;). We are visiting some of our family and photographing other families all month long. I (Amelia) am headed out on a road trip tomorrow with my Mom, Grandmom, and sister to DC, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey to visit relatives and old family stomping grounds. I’ve been looking forward to the trip for a while, and I’m crossing my fingers there is still some farm land left from my Pop Pop’s farm my Grandmom grew up on in New Jersey. Dan will be holding down the fort alone at the office, so please be patient as it may take us a bit longer to respond. I’m going to try and blog from the road, and I’m hoping to stick with the family theme. In a few weeks I am going to start a new column on Friday’s focusing on old family photos I’ve been archiving for the past year. For now, here are a couple of frames from some of the history I am going to be seeing over the next week…I am also taking the Polaroid camera that shot these frames to document our travels.

Pop Pop, who owned the farm my Grandmom was raised on.

Martha Gauntt Lackey (my Grandmom) who never likes to have her photo taken;)

Becky Lackey Phillips (my Mom) twirling her baton at Brandywine High School in Delaware

My Mom at her birthday party (not sure which) with friends we will also be visting in Delaware

We photographed local Charleston entrepreneurs Mike Ray of Normandy Farm Artisan Bakery, David Merritt and Jaime Tenney of Coast Brewery, Nicole Rager of Nicole’s Nutty Goodness, and Hank Weed of Caribrew Cold Press Coffee for an article in the Charleston Scene by Matthew Godbey. Owning your own business is hard work, and it was extremely rewarding to photograph such talented and dedicated individuals. They have all made their dreams their own reality, which takes a lot of courage and possibly a little bit of crazy;). It is really a pleasure living in Charleston where so many small businesses live and thrive. Here’s to local business and local talent!
As seen in the Scene…

Our photo friend Tim Hussin and his brother Noah are taking an adventure on their bikes and documenting life in America along the way. We think it is a pretty FANtastic idea, and wanted to share it. If you are interested in helping them along the way they are trying to raise funds through kickstarter. Check out their video here:

A few weeks ago the Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® held their 2nd Annual Tie One On fundraiser. The evening commenced with a silent auction of artwork from Eye Level Art outside of the Daniel Island Club, and followed with a delectable dinner and keynote speaker Leslie Haywood. It was definitely an evening of impact! Here are a few of our favorite images, and to see the rest of the photos please visit the gallery.
