Amber and Caleb

Let’s just say that our fall wedding season has officially begun and it started off with quite a spectacular jubilation. Amber and Caleb are high school sweethearts, and they couldn’t be any cuter if they tried. We photographed them with their pups Duke and Dank back in the spring and knew we were in for a good time. Amber and Caleb had their ceremony and reception at the stunning Mills House right in downtown Charleston, and Megan Morgan with Luke Wilson Special Events made the entire day look simply gorgeous and feel relaxing! There were hula hoops, the photo booth, and a paint by number of Amber and Caleb from their engagement session—SO cute (more on that in a later post). For now, a bit of a teaser…and wishes for lots of laughter to the newly weds;)

Love Story

Dan and I have been working on some ideas, and we are really excited to introduce the Love Story. We combine our still photography, audio interviews, a pinch of video, and the musical genius of Mr. Jenkins to create a unique look at our wedding couples prior to their “I do’s.” Part of our love for photography stems from telling people’s stories through photographs, and this is an extension of that love. We just wrapped up Lindy and Jack’s Love Story, and are very excited to share it with you. Pro-what?

We have been enjoying the season of summer, and have been a little slack on our photography tips. So, we are going to try and start again with some weekly photo tips. If you have any specific questions you want answered, please send us an email contact@dreamlandimages.com or comment on the post below.

It seems that we are constantly hearing stories from people about what went really wrong or what went really right with wedding photographers they have hired. The wrong stories are pretty petrifying, and the right stories are fantastic! It can be a difficult choice, and unfamiliar territory for most people. It is certainly a decision worth thinking about. Photography is like any other service or art; more often than not someone that has been producing that service as their profession is more qualified than someone who dabbles in it. You might pay more for a professional, but you get better results.

Here is a brief article on Pros of Hiring a Pro. We know that everyone has budgets to work with, and you should place emphasis on the areas that you feel are most significant to you. Of course we think photography is SUPER important, but we also understand budget constraints. Something we do try and drive home is to look through people’s work. The photographers’ whose work and personalities you connect with are the ones you should talk to. Choose the photographer first, then worry about extras. You can always get a wedding album after your wedding, or a disc, or prints, but you can’t get new photographs. Do you really want to be looking at a wedding album on your 5th anniversary and be wishing you hired a different photographer? We want you to LOVE your photos so much that you want to get them out and share them with your children, your family and your friends for years to come. That is what it is really all about, being able to share those memories and stories with people forever.

Time out

Inspiration is food for our souls, we thrive off of it. Thursday evening our friend Mr. Jenkins had a CD release party for his excellent new album 8 Bits + Pieces at Hope and Union coffee shop. It was an inspiring 30 minutes of listening to the album through headphones with 10 other people. There are very few moments anymore where we experience life with other people, without talking our way through it. It was a unique way of forcing us all to stop and listen. Just listen. It was a reminder of the simple pleasures, and the importance of taking a time-out to experience something as a whole. We are so often bombarded with email, phone, you tube, tweets, facebook updates, what’s hot, and who’s who in a society that forces us to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously. Whew. It is a busy bee kind of place, but there really is time to stop and listen. Take a respite and enjoy what is right in front of you. Thanks to Mr. Jenkins for the reminder, and the fantastic beats;).

Putting it all together

Summer Soiree. Black Tie, Blue Jean Event

Creative Director, Jacqueline Lawrence, of InventivEnvironments invited us to come out to the Charleston Young Professionals Summer Soiree, and what a treat! The Black Tie, Blue Jean Event was at the Francis Marion Hotel in the Carolina Ballroom which always makes for a great atmosphere. Jacqueline’s decor was amazing as usual, and the food was delicious! PDA lit the room up with their stylish and innovative lighting techniques, and DJ Doug Party All The Time got us out on the dance floor to boogie;). Here are a couple of frames we snapped while enjoying our night on the town, and can’t we wait for the next event!

Learning how to use light

We had a great time at the Studio 101 workshop this past Saturday at the Charleston Center for Photography. I had some really talented students, and I think they learned a lot about using the light to their advantage and achieving some new looks with their work. What is Charleston to you?

Friday we had a lovely evening starting off at the American Theater to grab a quick photo for a client, and then playing a bit before we left;). We then headed down to Bin 152 for some great wine and French cheese…yum. After that we walked across the street to Imaging Arts to see the art show, “What is Charleston to you?.” Dan’s work looked great, along with all the other participating photographers. If you didn’t get a chance to see it Friday, the gallery will have the collection up for the next month so head on over to check out the photographs.

Fitzgerald family
